BScN
A strong BScN application typically includes:
- High academic standing with an average of A- or greater in the final year of the bachelor’s degree
- Strong grades in all prerequisite courses
- A personal statement that, in the applicant’s own words, conveys enthusiasm for and commitment to nursing
- Demonstrated leadership and/or community involvement
- A strong track record that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to be successful in a demanding, full-time, accelerated program
Master of Nursing and Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner Diploma
Master of Nursing – Clinical (MN-Clinical)
A strong MN-Clinical application typically includes:
- A consistently strong academic record, with an A-range average in the BScN.
- A clear, focused, and well-written statement of interest outlining motivation, goals, anticipated learning from the program and placements, and intended career direction.
- Demonstrates emerging or established leadership by outlining leadership contributions.
- A robust CV highlighting relevant experience (e.g., leadership, professional memberships, quality improvement or program evaluation, committee work, research, continuing education, volunteer work, teaching, or precepting).
- A strong academic reference from an instructor able to speak to academic performance and ability to complete the program.
- A strong professional reference from a direct manager, supervisor, or preceptor (if still in the BScN) able to speak to nursing skills and abilities.

Master of Nursing – Health Systems Leadership and Administration (MN-HSLA)
A strong MN-HSLA application typically includes:
- A consistently strong academic record, with an A-range average in the BScN.
- A clear, focused, and well-written statement of interest outlining motivation, goals, anticipated learning from the program and placements, and intended career direction.
- Demonstrates emerging or established leadership by outlining leadership contributions.
- A robust CV highlighting relevant experience (e.g., leadership, professional memberships, quality improvement or program evaluation, committee work, research, continuing education, volunteer work, teaching, or precepting).
- A strong academic reference from an instructor able to speak to academic performance and ability to complete the program.
- A strong professional reference from a direct manager or supervisor able to speak to clinical and/or nursing leadership practice.

Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner and Post-Nurse Practitioner Diploma (MN-NP and PMNP)
A strong MN-NP and PMNP application typically includes:
- A consistently strong academic record, with an A-range average in the BScN/MN.
- A clear, focused, and well-written statement of interest outlining motivation, goals, anticipated learning from the program and clinical placements, and intended career direction.
- Recent RN experience in direct clinical practice (for example, within the past two years), demonstrating a strong clinical foundation; breadth of experience across client populations is an asset.
- A robust CV highlighting relevant experience (e.g., leadership, professional memberships, quality improvement or program evaluation, committee work, research, continuing education, volunteer work, teaching, or precepting).
- A strong academic reference from an instructor able to speak to academic performance and ability to complete the program.
- A strong professional reference from a direct manager or supervisor able to speak to clinical practice.

Doctoral
A strong Doctor of Nursing (DN) application typically includes:
- A consistent academic record, with an A-range average in the Master’s degree.
- A clear, focused, and well-written statement of interest that describes the proposed project/thesis and its significance. The proposed project/thesis focuses on the implementation of research into practice and/or decision-making to address a problem within in a health system or academic setting.
- Substantial experience (minimum 2 years) in a formal health system leadership or academic role (commonly advanced practice leadership, managerial or director level, or faculty position).
- A robust CV highlighting relevant experience and demonstrating engagement in scholarly dissemination. Examples include authorship on journal articles, conference presentations, or similar academic contributions relevant to the area of interest.
- The agreement of a supervisor and a clear link between the supervisor’s body of research/research methods and the applicant’s proposed project.
- A strong academic reference from a professor able to speak to academic performance.
- A strong professional reference from a manager, director, etc.
- A strong professional reference from a senior figure in the nursing community.

A strong PhD application typically includes:
- A consistent academic record, with an A-range average in the Master’s degree.
- A clear, focused, and well-written statement of interest that describes the proposed thesis and why it needs to be researched.
- A robust CV highlighting relevant experience and significant research experience, with resultant scholarly outputs such as journal articles and conference presentations.
- The agreement of a supervisor and a clear link between the supervisor’s body of research/research methods and the applicant’s proposed thesis.
- A strong academic reference from a professor able to speak to academic performance.
- A strong academic reference commenting on research ability or Master’s thesis.
