Mental Health Topics in Advanced Practice Nursing

(Formerly: RECOVERY-ORIENTED MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEMS OF CARE)

In the field of mental health and addictions there has been a recent recognition of the importance of explicitly including a focus upon recovery into theories and practices regarding the delivery of care. This focus includes empowerment of consumers and family members, attention to their subjective experiences, and the use of person-centred and strength-based approaches to clinical practice, research and policy. This course will examine current and best practice approaches to treating various populations with a special emphasis on those with severe and persistent mental illness. It will also examine programmatic, policy and research applications of the recovery-focused paradigm.
