Interests, activities, clubs and professional organizations: I really enjoy baking and crocheting and listening to CBC Radio, so I always have lots to talk about with my geriatric patients.

What was the most valuable lesson — inside or outside the classroom — you learned as a student the University of Toronto?

In my consolidation placement at school, I remember learning the importance of reflection on your practice and self-care. We give so much of ourselves as nurses, physically and emotionally, it’s really important to make the effort to take care of ourselves and talk about our practice, the good days and the bad so that we can feel good about the work we do every day.

Greatest professional accomplishment:

Participating in Operation PROVISION in 2015 and 2016. I traveled to Beirut Lebanon with the Canadian Armed Forces as part of the Government of Canada’s efforts to bring 25,000 Syrian Refugees to Canada. My colleagues and I performed the health screenings for the families who were coming to Canada. I take great pride in being a small part of that effort and I have loved following the different success stories of these individuals all across the country.

Favourite Bloomberg Nursing professor:

Laura Fairley, for teaching me that valuable lesson above.

What is your favourite thing about nursing?

My favourite thing is getting to know the patients and their families. I love being able to make connections with people and hopefully alleviate some of the anxiety that everyone has when they or one of their loved ones is in the hospital.

What advice do you have for current Bloomberg Nursing students?

Buy some high-quality hand cream and compression socks, they’re both worth their weight in gold.
