Dr. Laura Istanboulian is an Assistant Professor in the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto who leads a research program focused on nursing interventions for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Her doctoral research focussed on a bundled communication toolkit for patients who require ventilators in the ICU. Currently, she is building her program of research focussed on improving safe and equitable access to care for patients and their family caregivers across the critical care continuum.
Dr. Istanboulian, a nurse practitioner, is also a Clinician Nurse Scientist for the Ontario Provincial Centre for Excellence in Prolonged Ventilation Weaning at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto. Her community-based research at MGH involves exploring and evaluating ways to promote health and access to care by creating integrated care pathways.
