Laura is a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical and Academic lead for wound care at the Sinai Health System in Toronto, Ontario. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing Science, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Diploma and Doctor of Philosophy. From 1987 to 2016, Laura worked in various clinical and leadership positions as a registered nurse, clinical nurse specialist and nurse practitioner – wound care at an academic hospital in Toronto. She has been directly involved with the development of best practice guidelines through the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario. Laura has provided continuous leadership through the development of the Ontario Wound Care Interest Group as the founding president and ongoing membership on the executive. Her PhD research involved a cohort study of spinal cord injured persons who have undergone surgical closure for pressure injuries. This funded study examined cost, health care utilization and predictors of complications in this population. Laura served as co-chair for, Health Quality Ontario Standard development for four types of wounds. Laura received the Wightman-Berris Academy Individual Teaching Excellence Award in the Health Profession Programs category for 2020-2021. She has is the current chair of the research committee for the newly formed Canadian Pressure Injury Advisory Panel and serves on the board of directors for the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel.
