Global Scholars from Hong Kong visit Bloomberg Nursing

25 August 2017

In July 2017, the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing welcomed two visiting Global Scholars, Wong Hoi Yi (Joyce) & Li Ka Ying (Wendy), both from the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital Obstetrics Department in Hong Kong.

During their 10-day stay in Toronto, both Joyce & Wendy visited hospitals throughout the city of Toronto (including The Hospital for Sick Children, St. Michael’s Hospital & Mount Sinai Hospital), where they met with nurse leaders, educators, coordinators and social workers in each hospital.

Although there are some similarities in the maternal and neonatal care provided in Canada and Hong Kong, there were many observed differences and lessons the visiting scholars will take home with them.

“Kangaroo care”, electronic patient records and parental support and education are all things Joyce & Wendy learned about during their stay here in Canada and plan to share their learnings with their Director and 100 other nurses who work in their department within the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital.
