Dr. Martine Puts has been awarded the 2018 Pfizer Award for Excellence in Nursing Research by the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology. This award is presented to a nurse whose research has a clinical focus and demonstrated practical application, which has created or maintains a program in which new research findings are shared among oncology nurses and influences the development of research-based nursing practice.
Dr. Puts is an Associate Professor and the Director of the MN Program at Bloomberg Nursing. Her research interests include health, functioning and quality of life of older adults, frailty and geriatric assessment, and improving care for older adults with cancer (geriatric oncology). In 2017, Dr. Puts was awarded an impact grant from the Canadian Cancer Society for a four-year research study on older patients with cancer. With older age, the risk of treatment complications may rise, and Puts’ study will help determine if a comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) and specialized care plan can improve the health and wellbeing of adults with cancer who are 65 years of age or older during their cancer treatments.
