After completing their nursing education, there is one more step every student must take before being licensed to practice. This exam, the National Council Licensure Examination, or NCLEX-RN, tests student knowledge, and ensures they meet standards to practice nursing in their jurisdiction.
The NCLEX replaced the previous licensure exam in Canada in 2015. Bloomberg Nursing is pleased to share that we continue our tradition of excellence, with an ultimate pass rate of 97.7%. This compares favourably to a provincial rate of 83.7%, and a national rate of 84.1%.
“I am thrilled by our level of success with the NCLEX,” says Maureen Barry, director of undergraduate education. “We’ve had a long history of success preparing students for the previous licensure exam, and the fact that this success holds with the new NCLEX demonstrates the incredible quality of our students and the education provided here.”
Students may attempt the NCLEX up to three times, and Bloomberg Nursing students shine right on the first attempt. 94.7% of our students passed on the first attempt, compared to the provincial average of 67.7%, and the national average of 69.7%. In 2015, Ontario graduated 44.4% of nurses in Canada.
