As 2022 comes to a close, The Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing is excited to highlight our community’s achievements over the past year. These were moments that have created ripples within the nursing community, sparking innovation and inspiring compassion across the field. Some of these key moments include:
- The one-year anniversary of the launch of our Bloomberg Nursing Alumni-Graduate Student Mentorship Program
- Alumnus Dr. Leigh Chapman appointed Canada’s new Chief Nursing Officer
- BScN Student Vonnie Lee awarded the University Health Network’s Sopman Humanitarian Award
- Assistant Professor Charlene Chu receives a Connaught Innovation Award

2.) Launch of Bloomberg Nursing mentorship program helps graduate student find new career path
Hear from Bloomberg Nursing Master of Nursing student Anika Andal, and Farah Khan, Director of Quality, Risk and Patient Safety at Trillium Health Partners about the faculty’s latest mentorship program and the benefits it creates within the nursing community, for both mentors and mentees.
Bloomberg Nursing’s Vonnie Lee shares how the personal challenges she faced within her nursing education journey helped her develop the critical skills she needed to provide care for patients and how this compassion earned the University Health Network’s Sopman Humanitarian Award.
4.) ‘Sometimes you just need to believe in yourself’ – Meet incoming NUS President Samantha Bulchand
Samantha Bulchard’s diligence and determination motivated her to pursue a degree at Bloomberg Nursing. She shares how her passion for nursing will inspire her leadership role as the newest President of the Nursing Undergraduate Society (NUS) at U of T.
Charlene Chu, Assistant Professor at Bloomberg Nursing became the first nurse to win the University’s Connaught Innovation Award after developing a revolutionary digital diagnostic tool for physiotherapy, Nightingale.ai. Read her highlights about the benefits and uses of the new platform.
6.) Nursing PhD graduate aims to fix the rising rates of burnout among pediatric nurses
Pediatric Critical Care Nurse, Laura Buckley, who also received her PhD from Bloomberg Nursing describes her doctoral research examining nurse burnout, and the consequences this can have on health systems. Over a year after launching Bloomberg Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing (DN) program, students reflect on their journeys as they complete their residency in-person after two years of online learning. Hear from Julia Fineczko, and Merveille Ndondo, two current DN students, on their experiences and the opportunities that the program has provided them so far.
8.) Bloomberg Nursing faculty members recognized with teaching awards of excellence
Erica Cambly, assistant professor at Bloomberg Nursing, and Preceptor Maria Fe Seveilleno were both recognized for outstanding work in their teaching fields including innovation in online teaching and demonstrating leadership within the nursing field for students.
