Bloomberg Nursing is pleased to announce 15 of our students are recipients of Registered Nurses’ Foundation of Ontario (RNFOO) awards and scholarships, earning more than a third of the awards available in 2012.
The Alumnae Association of the School of Nursing, Toronto General Hospital Scholarship | |
Rola Moghabghab | To a nursing student or a Registered Nurse pursuing education at the undergraduate or graduate level. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding potential and/or contributions to their chosen area of practice. |
The Community Health Nurses’ Initiative Group (CHNIG) Research Award | |
Winnie SunMelinda Wall | To a Registered Nurse, who is a member of the Community Health Nurses’ Initiative Group for a year or more and is pursing research in community health nursing at the masters or doctoral levels in an academic setting. The award can also be given to any community health nurse, who is a member of CHNIG for at least a year, who wishes to undertake research in a clinical setting. |
The Donna Kettyle Award – Ontario Association of Rehabilitation Nurses Award (OARN) | |
Kristine Newman | To provide an opportunity to a Registered Nurse who wishes to pursue further study in the field of rehabilitation nursing. Applicants may be in a specialty certificate program, baccalaureate or master’s degree level of study. Preference will be given to those whose focus of study demonstrates a positive impact on the promotion and development of rehabilitation nursing. Applicants must be members of the OARN for a minimum of one year. Applicants can only receive this award once per degree. |
The Dorothy Ferguson Scholarship | |
Leigh Chapman | To provide an opportunity to a Registered Nurse who wishes to pursue a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree in nursing. Applicant must demonstrate outstanding leadership potential. Preference will be given to full-time students. |
The Evelyn Cameron Memorial Bursary (PedNIG) | |
Kate GentAliya Visram Jaffer | To provide opportunities to Registered Nurses who wish to pursue education at the undergraduate or graduate level with a focus on pediatric nursing. Applicants must be members of PedNIG and must demonstrate commitment to advancing the practice of pediatric nursing in Ontario. |

Shannon KeastZamin Ladha | To provide opportunities to 3rd or 4th year basic baccalaureate nursing students or 2nd year of a second level entry baccalaureate program to complete their baccalaureate degree. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding potential and contribution to the fields of child and family, oncological or mental health nursing. |
Margaret Myers Diabetes Clinical Practice Award – Diabetes Nursing Interest Group (DNIG) | |
Lisa Gurman | To provide an opportunity to a Registered Nurse or graduating baccalaureate nursing student who wishes to pursue education at the graduate level OR to complete a special project focusing on diabetes. The applicant has demonstrated significant interest in diabetes research, education, and care and is currently practicing, or intending to practice, in the field. Applicants must be members of the Diabetes Nursing Interest Group of RNAO. This annual award is made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Murphy/Myers family. |
Mary Ann Murphy Memorial Diabetes Award – Diabetes Nursing Interest Group (DNIG) | |

Maternal Child Nurses Interest Group (MCNIG) Scholarship | |
Donna Brown | To a Registered Nurse enrolled in a Doctorate program at a recognized university in Canada with a course or research project/thesis in maternal/child or neonatal nursing within the hospital or community setting. Applicants must be members of MCNIG and not a recipient of this scholarship within the past 3 years. |
Ontario Nursing Informatics Group (ONIG) Scholarships | |
Julie KwanKristine Newman | To provide opportunities to Registered Nurses who wish to pursue further education in informatics at the undergraduate or graduate level. Preference will be given to members of the ONIG. |
Provincial Nurse Educators Interest Group (PNEIG) Award | |

Dr. Sheela Basrur and GE Oncology Nursing Education Scholarship | |
Jacqueline Galica | Applicants must be Ontario residents enrolled in or accepted for enrolment into a university graduate program with a focus on oncology. Registered nurses in the province of Ontario and intending to practice in Ontario following completion of the program. |
The awards were presented at the RNFOO annual gala, which is designed to recognize the 2012 award winners and celebrate the nursing profession as the kick-off to Nursing Week.
The RNFOO is a charitable organization that provides financial support for nurses and nursing students in Ontario to further their nursing education or engage in research. The Foundation provides funds for continuing education and research projects at the baccalaureate and graduate levels, offering scholarships, grants, bursaries, and research awards to qualified residents of Ontario.
