Maureen Barry is well known for her work in the use of simulation in education. She is highly regarded for her expertise in experiential learning, innovative teaching, and the use of Web-based learning and technology. She is often the first to discover emerging technologies and the catalyst behind undergraduates embracing the latest innovations.
Barry has won the Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing Teaching Innovation Award as well as multiple U of T Nursing teaching awards, which praise her for being a lecturer who “continually goes beyond the call of duty to educate and encourage every student.”
Committed to furthering health in resource-constrained countries, she directed a health care clinic in Kenya for three years and practised nursing in Ethiopia for two years. She has spent the last two sabbaticals in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
