Supporting Long-term Care Residents to maintain a Sense of Purpose in Life

Featuring Dr. Laura J.E. Brown, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Manchester

Thursday, May 25, 2023 | 12 PM – 12:50 PM | Rm 270 Health Sciences Building| online via Zoom

Dr. Brown joins us as part of a collaboration with Dr. Charlene Chu, through the University of Manchester’s Internationalization Strategic Partnerships Development Fund with the University of Toronto.

In this talk, Dr. Brown will present some of her recent work that considered how we can better support older care home residents to maintain a sense of purpose. This includes a systematic review of interventions that support older adults to engage in purposeful activities, as well as qualitative work describing care home residents’ experiences of maintaining a sense of purpose in life. Together, the findings identify effective strategies for supporting care home residents to maintain a sense of purpose, as well as important barriers to engaging with purposeful activities.
