Dean’s Message January 2023
Dean’s Message: January 2023
As we ease into the month of January, and return to our daily routines, I wanted to share with our Bloomberg Nursing community some of the things I am looking forward to in 2023.
I am filled with optimism for what this year has in store for the Faculty of Nursing. We have come so far, not only through the accomplishments of our students, faculty and alumni, but also as a profession. Recent years have taught us that nurses are prepared to face the challenges that come our way while we continue to advocate for what is right; for society, our patients, our health care systems, and ourselves.
We also had a great deal to celebrate in 2022, with the appointments of chief nursing officers at the provincial and federal level, in addition to being able to celebrate in-person with our graduating students and our previous 2020 and 2021 graduates. In the coming year we will continue to have new and exciting moments to feel proud of, including our new brand and website launch, in addition to celebrating the achievements to come from our students, and our faculty researchers.
I am delighted to announce that our alumnus Angela Cooper Brathwaite has been named to the Order of Canada in recognition of her ongoing and extensive contributions to the field of nursing through her leadership, public policy advocacy, education and research.
This month we highlight some new research, including that of Associate Professor Martine Puts who has led a study examining the impact of geriatric assessment screening on older adults with cancer. We also share one of our leading feature stories from our 2020-2022 Research Report, on Associate Professor Kristin Cleverley’s Student and Youth Mental Health Initiative.
I hope you are all ready for another academic term. Wishing you and your families the very best for 2023.
Sincerely,
Linda Johnston PhD FEANS FCAHS FAAN
