Dr. Elizabeth Peter to Chair the Health Sciences Research Ethics Board (REB)

Dr. Elizabeth Peter begins the prestigious position as the Health Sciences Research Ethics Board (REB) Chair this July 1, 2013. The University has three Research Ethics Boards who review all ethics protocols 1) Health Sciences, 2) HIV, and 3) Social Sciences, Humanities and Education.  Well acquainted with the Health Sciences REB through previous experience, Dr. Peter joins the chairs of the other two REBs in their leadership roles to uphold U of T’s high standards of ethical conduct across all aspects of research.

“To be part of this strong synthesis of research, ethics and administration across the health sciences at the university is a huge opportunity “said Dr. Peter.  “I look forward to continue harmonizing the relationship between the university and our affiliated hospitals through this position.”

As Health Sciences Chair, Dr. Peter will also play a key role on the Research Ethics Policy and Advisory Committee (REPAC) in advising the Vice-President, Research on ethical issues as they arise. In a career dedicated to healthcare ethics, this new opportunity is a natural extension of Dr. Peter’s work, and she now becomes a prominent voice on research ethics and integrity throughout the university.
