""Bloomberg Nursing Lecturer Jana Lok has been awarded funding to develop a new student-directed, technology-enabled, interactive module to help students learn to assess arterial blood gas (ABG) using a case-based, interactive approach. Funding is provided by the Provost’s Instructional Technology Innovation Fund (ITIF), a seed fund designed to catalyze initiatives that immediately and directly impact University of Toronto education and teaching programs through innovation and development.

Lok’s module will be embedded within specific skills-based courses in the undergraduate and nurse practitioner programs, as well as in the physician assistant program in the Faculty of Medicine. “This is an exciting opportunity develop a new opportunity for students to learn their ABG assessment skills,” says Lok. “Receiving this funding from ITIF will ensure that students have the opportunity to strengthen their clinical skills in a non-clinical environment.” In addition to being used for assessment, students will also be able to access and review the material throughout their programs.

“Bloomberg Nursing prides itself on innovation in research and education,” says Linda Johnston, dean. “Faculty-led initiatives such as this new ABG module continue to strengthen our programs, and contribute to making us the #3 nursing school in the world.”
