Our panel of internationally-recognized experts will discuss how data is used in decision making in health care – from policy decisions, to understanding patient outcomes and quality of care, to how patients use their own data. The panelists will address how governments and policymakers use data to make decisions, how nursing executives and leaders use data to understand patient care, and how patients can use data to make decisions about their own health.

Walter Sermeus, RN, PhD
Frances Bloomberg International Distinguished Visiting Professor

Dr. Sermeus is a professor of healthcare management at the Leuven Institute for Healthcare Policy, University of Leuven, Belgium, and a member of the Strategic Advisory Committee of the European Health Management Association. He will touch on international issues around data and digital health.

Lynn Nagle, PhD, RN, FAAN
Assistant Professor, Bloomberg Nursing

Dr. Nagle is a pioneer of nursing informatics; she essentially developed the field in Canada and continues to consult and educate in health informatics. She will discuss the Canadian context.

Kelly Metcalfe, RN, PhD
Bloomberg Professor, Cancer Genetics

Dr. Metcalfe is an international expert in cancer genetics, particularly breast cancer genetics. Her research has led to changes in practice in how women are screened and the treatment options they are offered. She is an expert in the use of large-scale databases in health care research, and will talk about how she uses databases to inform patient decision-making and policy development.
