Alexandra Harris (LMH)

Bloomberg Nursing Graduate Student Elected to the 2013 Governing Council

13 March 2013

Alexandra Harris, RN, MN, MHSc and PhD student knew she had stiff competition going into her campaign for a seat on U of T’s Governing Council.  Her strong campaign strategy resulted in her win, over six other competitors, to become the representative for Graduate Students, Consistency II for the 2013 Governing Council.

“It’s an honour to represent my fellow graduate students at this level,” says Harris, a graduate student at Bloomberg Nursing.  “It’s important to me to use this position and increase engagement with students about university affairs.  I’m also looking forward to creating opportunities for international students to have a voice within the Council.”

Established in 1971, Governing Council is a unique structure that addresses academic, financial and student affairs.  Bringing together faculty, staff, students, alumni and government appointees, Governing Council is the highest decision-making body at the University of Toronto.

For Harris this is a chance to represent the voice of graduate students at the table and bring about positive change to the university when she begins her role on July 1, 2013.
