A Distinguished Career in Improving Paediatric Pain Outcomes is Honoured by the Canadian Pain Society

Less than a decade after receiving the Early Career Award, Dr. Bonnie Stevens has been honoured again by the Canadian Pain Society (CPS) as the 2014 recipient of their Distinguished Career Award.  Recognized for her groundbreaking advancements in assessing and managing pain in infants and children, this award celebrates a career that has made positive strides in health care delivery for the system’s youngest patients.

“It’s been an incredible journey to change the way health care professionals address paediatric pain,” said Dr. Stevens.  “It’s an honour to have my work, and my career, recognized by the CPS, and I’m looking forward to making additional contributions in my field, while ultimately improving the quality of life for children and their families managing paediatric pain.”

The director of the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain and the co-director of the Pain Centre at SickKids, Dr. Stevens is also a professor at the U of T Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing and Faculty of Medicine.  Dr. Stevens holds the Signy Hildur Eaton Chair in Paediatric Nursing at SickKids, a position established in 2000 and the first endowed chair in paediatric nursing in Canada.

Dr. Stevens will receive her award and present her work on May 22, 2014 in Quebec City, Que at the Canadian Pain Society annual scientific meeting.
