The renewed partnership agreement promotes excellence in the health leadership field and provides students in the DN, MN-HSLA and CPD programs with an expedited and cost-effective pathway to the Certified Health Executive (CHE) Program.
The University of Toronto’s Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing has renewed its strategic alliance with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) for two of its degree programs, the Doctor of Nursing (DN) and the Master of Nursing, Health Systems, Leadership and Administration (MN HSLA), as well as certificate programs within the Faculty’s Centre for Professional Development. The renewal of this strategic alliance is aimed at increasing the leadership capabilities of health care managers in Canada.
The CHE designation is the only national certification program for Canadian health leaders. This program offers individual leaders several benefits including support for lifelong learning in health services leadership; assistance with career advancement; peer recognition, and serves as an essential career designation.

This collaboration will also allow for both organizations to better address the constantly evolving needs of health leaders and align themselves with the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework. This framework is a foundation for Canadian health leadership development and defines the knowledge, skills and attitudes a leader must have to positively contribute to the Canadian health care system.
About the University of Toronto, Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, DN, MN HSLA and CPD programs
The Doctor of Nursing Program (DN) is a thesis-based, practice-focused program designed for experienced nurse leaders who want to guide transformative change in healthcare systems and education. The DN equips graduates to apply research in real-world settings and drive innovation in policy, leadership and care delivery.
The Master of Nursing, Health System Leadership and Administration Program (MN HSLA) prepares nurses for formal leadership roles in healthcare. Students study organizational design, policy frameworks, and program evaluation focusing on ethical leadership and health equity. Practicum placements and in-person residencies support real-world application of student learning.
The CPD Clinical Leadership in Long-term Care Certificate is designed to provide nursing working in long-term care with the foundational knowledge and skills required of point-of-care clinical leaders. Students take two microcredentials to complete the certificate which include: Core Leadership Skill Development and Managing Quality Care and Operations. These courses align with front-line leader domains and behaviours identified by the CCHL LEADS framework.
The CPD Certificate in Leadership and Management is designed to meet the needs of health care professionals starting their career in or aspiring towards leadership positions in healthcare. The microcredentials within the certificate enhance participants knowledge and expertise in managing and leading clinical teams to support excellence in patient care, high performance operations and healthy work environments.
