The Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing warmly welcomed its alumni to the University of Toronto’s annual Alumni Reunion celebrations across various events that took place in June.
Nurse’s Night Out
New this year, was a Nurse’s Night Out – Soccer Viewing Party where alumni had the chance to cheer on Team Canada as they took on Qatar in the group stage of the World Cup. Alumni brought family and friends and were joined by Bloomberg Nursing faculty and staff including Dean Robyn Stremler.
“It was wonderful to see our alumni community come together for this event and for Bloomberg Nursing to be a part of the growing momentum around this tournament, it was a perfect kick-off to our Alumni Reunion festivities,” said Stremler.
Breakfast with the Dean
On Saturday June 20, Bloomberg Nursing hosted its annual Breakfast with the Dean at the U of T Faculty Club, where alumni from honoured years ending in 6 or 1 celebrated milestone anniversaries. Remarks from Dean Stremler focused on the expansion of Bloomberg Nursing’s programs to the U of T Scarborough and U of T Mississauga campuses, as the Faculty builds a pathway to nursing education in both the eastern and western GTA. Bloomberg Nursing alumni Nirusha Jebanesan (BScN 2018, MN-Clinical 2022, PMNP 2024) and Manna Hailu (BScN 2025) also shared remarks reflecting on how this expansion will impact the communities in which they live and work, providing better and equitable access to care.
The Faculty’s Breakfast with the Dean is not complete without an honoured years toast. Guests raised their glasses to those in attendance including the Class of 1971 celebrating their 55th anniversary, along with members of the classes of 2016, 2011, 2006, 2001, 1996, 1991, 1986, 1981, and 1976.
Touring the Sim Lab
Also on June 20, Bloomberg Nursing participated in the U of T-wide Kid’s Passport event, with SimKids: Nurse for a Day. This family-friendly event invited alumni to bring their children to the Simulation Lab where Bloomberg Nursing student and alumni volunteers guided children through hands-on activities focused on infant care, handwashing, and using a stethoscope to listen to the heartbeats of our simulation mannequins. Regular tours of the Sim Lab also took place in morning and invited alumni from across U of T to learn more about the nursing program and how our students learn in a simulated clinical setting.
For those alumni who attend Alumni Fest at the heart of the St. George campus, the Nursing Undergraduate Society (NUS) was on hand leading nursing-themed trivia in addition to promoting Bloomberg Nursing programs to potential future nurses and nurse leaders.
