Nurse Practitioner Extended Class Registration Information
If you are currently enrolled and graduating from our NP program, information has been sent to the College of Nurses of Ontario for your registration in the extended class. You can obtain more information about the process through this CNO website. If you did not received your package from CNO, you should contact Customer Service at 416-928-0900. In order to be eligible to write the extended class exam CNO must receive verification of course completion.
Students practicing outside Ontario should contact regulators in your respective provinces regarding the specific process for extended class registration. Students in our program may also find the following information useful:
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program’s (AANPCP’s) Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam is approved by Canadian regulatory bodies to determine whether a nurse practitioner candidate demonstrates the competencies necessary for safe and ethical practice as an adult nurse practitioner in Canada. More information can be found n the Canadian Council of Registered Nurse Regulators (CCRNR) website.
The Paediatric Nursing Certification Board’s (PNCB’s) Primary Care Paediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam is approved by Canadian regulatory bodies to determine whether a nurse practitioner candidate demonstrates the competencies necessary for safe and ethical practice as a paediatric nurse practitioner in Canada. More information can be found n the Canadian Council of Registered Nurse Regulators (CCRNR) website.
Primary Health Care/Global Health
Students in the Primary Health Care/Global Health area of emphasis will write the Canadian Nurse Practitioner Exam (CNPE) for Family/All Ages. More information can be found at the Canadian Council of Registered Nurse Regulators (CCRNR) website.
As you may be aware, the implementation of the 2018 nurse practitioner entry to practice competencies required that a new Blueprint be developed for the CNPE:F/AA exam. The Blueprint serves as a framework and guide for many activities in the examination development process. Specifically, the Blueprint provides explicit instructions and guidelines on how the competencies and other variables are to be expressed within the examination.
Additionally, a new CNPE: F/AA Prep Tool is available as an optional resources that can be purchased to help you prepare to take the CNPE:F/AA exam. The prep tool consists of two parts; a Study Guide containing information to help candidates prepare to take examination, and an 80-question online Practice Test. After completing the online practice test, the candidate is provided an exam review scorecard which includes the rationales and the references for each item on the test along with the summary and diagnostic information related to how the candidate preformed on the Practice Test.
The examination for October 10, 2018 is based on the 2018 CNPE:F/AA Blueprint and will have 170 – 190 multiple choice questions. The exam will be a 4 hour computer-based test. More information and links to the exam Blueprint exam prep tool (English and French) can be found on the CCRNR website: http://www.ccrnr.ca/familyall-ages.html.
