The Centre for Professional Development (CPD) at Bloomberg Nursing has developed a new certificate: Advanced Practice in Paediatrics for Nurse Practitioners to help Nurse Practitioners (NPs) enhance their skills and knowledge in preparation for practicing in primary care. The first course as part of the proposed certificate Advanced Paediatric Health Assessment is scheduled to begin on September 14, 2026.
“This course is valuable for those transitioning into paediatric settings, as it closes the gap between foundational knowledge and real-world application,” says Krista Keilty, Paediatric Course Director at CPD and an Assistant Professor. “Learners will leave better equipped to conduct comprehensive assessments that support sound clinical decision-making.”
New course strengthens training in paediatric health
Keilty designed the certificate program because of the recent changes to NP education where focus is placed on caring for all ages across all settings. This new course, through a combination of lectures and live sessions led by experts in paediatric and primary care, will equip nurse practitioners (NPs) with the skills they need to conduct health assessments across all ages and stages of childhood. It will help learners identify what matters most when evaluating a child and build confidence in managing paediatric cases.
Keilty says that participants will also develop effective communication skills for working with families and learn to recognize key “red flags,” that prepare them to deliver safe and high-quality care across a range of settings.

“This course is taught by CPD instructors who are not only experts in caring for children across all ages and settings, but they are also highly skilled educators who understand how to teach advanced practice clinicians,” says Keilty.
Bloomberg Nursing is a leader in paediatric nursing education
Bloomberg Nursing is a well-known leader in pediatrics because of its depth of expertise and long-standing commitment to pediatric NP education. CPD Instructors in particular, place a strong emphasis on feedback and progression. Learners receive meaningful input that helps them gauge their readiness for practice and where they need to further grow
“We know that this new course will help NPs who wish to enter paediatric practice feel both confident and prepared,” says Keilty. “We are excited for this new offering through CPD and look forward to helping NPs advance in their careers.”
