Dr. Doran, PhD, RN, FCAHS, assumed a tenure stream position at the University of Toronto in 1996 and is now full Professor, and an Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Nurse Senior Researcher at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto. She has held leadership roles as Associate Dean of Research (2001-06) and Interim-Dean (2005).
Dr. Doran has recognized expertise in health services research, outcomes measurement, patient safety, and e-Health. Her research has earned her the Ontario Premier’s Research Excellence Award (1999), the Canadian Association of University Schools of Nursing Award of Excellence in Nursing Research (2000), and the Dorothy Pringle Research Excellence Award, Sigma Theta Tau International, Lambda Pi Chapter (2000), and the Canadian Nurses’ Association Centennial Award (2009). She is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, Deputy Director of the Nursing Health Services Research Unit, University of Toronto, and member of the Research and Evaluation Committee of the Canadian Patient Safety Institute.
She is frequently invited to consult internationally on patient safety and outcomes measurement, most recently in Finland, Japan, Switzerland, Australia, and the United States. She has worked extensively with policy makers from Health Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, with Ontario homecare agencies at both the CCAC and provider agency level, and she is currently engaged with industry partners, Nortel, HInext, TELUS, and IBM, all of whom are collaborators and sponsors of e-health research projects. Dr. Doran is also co-leading a national emerging team in home care patient safety research, funded by the Canadian Patient Safety Institute. |
