Bloomberg Nursing hosts renowned sleep expert
On November 10, 2011, Bloomberg Nursing welcomed guest speaker Dr. Ann Rogers to the Faculty to lead a discussion about nursing fatigue and patient safety. Faculty researchers and PhD students were invited to the presentation in which Rogers examined her ground-breaking nursing study that documented the long hours frequently worked by nurses and their effect on patient safety. This research led to sweeping changes of nursing policies in clinical settings across the U.S. In addition, Rogers served as an expert advisor in the development of the Best Practice Guideline on nursing fatigue for the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.
Rogers is a professor at the Neil Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University and holds the Edith F. Honeycutt Chair in Nursing. A nationally renowned sleep expert, she is a fellow of both the American Academy of Nursing and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Rogers is currently serving as the principal investigator on a National Institutes of Health study evaluating the efficacy of an intervention combining a traditional diet and exercise protocol with extended sleep to facilitate weight loss in obese adults.
