We are pleased to announce BScN student Zamin Ladha, Class of 2012, is the recipient of theStudent of Distinction Award from the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO).
In addition to Ladha’s involvement with RNAO’s Region 6, Toronto West chapter, he helped promote the Nursing Students of Ontario’s (NSO) most recent Model World Health Organization conference. He was also a member of the leadership team that hosted the Canadian Nursing Students Association’s Ontario regional conference in 2011. Ladha is the outgoing president of U of T’s Nursing Undergraduate Society. In this position, he organized many social, academic and professional development events, including a résumé writing workshop.
“I feel very honoured to be receiving this recognition from the RNAO and am extremely grateful to the faculty at Bloomberg Nursing for nominating me,” says Ladha. “I hope I can continue making a difference and advocating for both my patients and fellow nursing peers once I start my career.”
A passionate advocate, Ladha successfully lobbied for the university to provide affordable tuberculosis testing for all students. He is also committed to evidence-based practice. During one of his clinical placements, he used RNAO’s Enhancing Healthy Adolescent Development best practice guideline to create a poster on youth living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
The Student of Distinction Award is given to a nursing student who is a role model for professionalism and contributes to the advancement of the RNAO / NSO within his nursing program. This student also acts as a resource for other nursing students.
