The Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing is delighted to hear that our fully affiliated partner, Mt. Sinai Hospital, has been designated a Magnet Hospital. Mt. Sinai is the first hospital in Canada to receive this important recognition.

The Magnet Recognition Program was conceived and developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. It recognizes health care organizations that provide quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. Magnet hospitals are known for advancing nursing standards and practice, as well as improving patient care, safety and satisfaction. The application procedure is complex and demanding, and few hospitals achieve Magnet designation. The first Magnet hospital was designated in 1994, and non-US health care organizations were able to participate in 2000. In the US, approximately 6.61% of all registered hospitals have achieved Magnet Recognition status. Mt. Sinai is the first and only Canadian hospital – and one of only eight institutions outside the US – to achieve Magnet designation.
