International PhD students join Bloomberg Nursing

29 January 2015

Bloomberg Nursing and the University of Toronto are proud partners in Ciencia sem Fronteiras (CsF), or Science without Borders. CsF is a scholarship program for students that “strives to promote the consolidation, expansion and globalization of science and technology, of innovation, and of Brazilian competitiveness through the medium exchange and international mobility.” This fall, Bloomberg Nursing is welcoming three doctoral students from Brazil – the first CsF students at the doctoral level – to work with faculty members on their research and dissertations. Pacita Aoeribense is from the Escola de Enfermagem Anna Nerv, while Camila Pureza joins us from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sol. Aoeribense and Pureza will both complete four months of doctoral studies under the supervision of Vice-Provost Sioban Nelson, a Bloomberg Nursing Professor. Their colleague, Cristiane Trivisiol da Silva, also from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, will complete seven months under the supervision of Professor Denise Gastaldo.

Administered by the School of Graduate Studies and the Canadian Bureau for International Education, Bloomberg Nursing’s participation in the program is part of ongoing efforts to foster collaboration and relationships between U of T and partner institutions in Brazil. “While they are here with the faculty’s visiting doctoral student program to advance their studies, they also enhance their English proficiency,” says Freida Chavez, Director of the Global Affairs Office at Bloomberg Nursing. “In turn, these students provide us with fresh new perspectives on nursing and health care. The value of these collaborations cannot be underestimated, for the student or the host institution.”
