What are the origins of nursing? And how did globalization impact the way we see nursing today? Rev. Tom Keighley, FRCN explored these topics during an informal and informative presentation on Globalization in Nursing – Something Old and Something New. Held on October 17, 2012 this engaging talk was part of Bloomberg Nursing’s Alumni Lifelong Learning Series, sponsored by Manulife Financial, and was attended by alumni, students and faculty alike.
Introduced by faculty lecturer Amy Bender, RN, PhD, the lunchtime presentation quickly got underway. Rev. Keighley started his talk in Babylonian times, looking at the first recording of medical practice, the Code of Hammurabi.
After Rev. Keighley gave his lecture, he invited attendees to participate in an informal question and answer session. Many participated in the 25-minute discussion and took a closer look how the past shows the integral role nursing has played, and the ability of nursing to effectively work in any setting.
