Visiting Doctoral Students
Opportunities exist for students currently registered in a non-Canadian PhD program to obtain additional research training under the supervision of a graduate professor from our faculty. Interested applicants should identify a suitable co-supervisor in our faculty supervisors list, in collaboration with their home supervisor, and submit a Visiting PhD Student Application Form to the International Office at international.nursing@utoronto.ca .
The student's stay in Toronto is normally for a 6-month period. The fee for a 1-6 month stay is $6,600 CND. The fee for academic stays over 6 months to 1 year is $10,000. These fees grant access to the library, and covers costs associated with auditing up to 2 courses per term (maximum 4 in one year), and co-supervision as needed.
International PhD (INPhD) Collaboration Program
The INPhD is a collective educational initiative. The main purpose of the program is to enhance doctoral education of nurses in order to prepare them to work on global health issues. International PhD students can spend up to a term working under the co-supervision of a faculty member. Please review the faculty supervisors list. For more information please visit http://www.inphd.nursing.utoronto.ca. If you are interested, and currently a LSBFoN student, please fill out an INPhD Student Application Form and send it to international.nursing@utoronto.ca.

2. Global Health Education
Current students of the LSBFON who are interested in global health or completing an international clinical practicum may explore the following options:
Undergraduate Student
NUR480: Critical Perspectives in Global Health Nursing: An Elective Practicum
This elective course provides an opportunity for an enriched, independent experience in community-based health care setting in and around Hyderabad India. The purpose of this course is to facilitate understanding of global health issues, social determinants of health, and provision of health care services to marginalized communities. With consistent support from faculty and host preceptors, students are able to actively participate in projects of the host organizations. Currently the program consists of pre-departure seminars framed within post-colonial feminism, a 6 week practicum, and a post-trip debriefing. Since 2006, placements have been offered in Aboriginal communities in Ontario, Manitoba, and Newfoundland, and internationally in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Namibia, and India. Currently, we work in partnership with the Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI; www.chai-india.org) to offer students a range of HIV/AIDS-focused practice experiences in and around Hyderabad India.

Graduate Students
NUR1072
This is the practice consolidaton course for the MN program. It is expected that students will integrate previous learning and continue the analysis, synthesis and integration of advanced theoretical principles and concepts related to advanced nursing practice, using the revised national framework for advanced nursing practice.
3. International Student Support
The Mentorship Program
The Nursing Undergraduate Society (NUS) and the Graduate Nursing Student Society (GNSS) created a program in collaboration with the International Office to offer students a mentor to facilitate their adaptation to nursing academic life.
The International Office has 8 Ambassador positions available to students each year in order to increase broader participation in international aspects of student study and life.
The Health Sciences Writing Centre
The Health Science Writing Centre is a tutoring centre for internationally-educated students. The Faculty of Nursing holds an annual workshop in collaboration with the writing centre for internationally-educated students. Here students learn critical writing, researching and communication skills for nursing education.
